Daily Prayer & Reflection

The whole college day offers pupils and staff opportunities to encounter Jesus Christ.

There are set times of prayer and reflection. Each piece of work that the pupils prepare is marked at the top with AmDg, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, (for the greater glory of God).

Pupils and staff have the opportunity to pray and reflect every day during morning form period, at the start of each lesson and at the middle of the day.

Reflections are prepared to coincide with current news or historical events and significant feasts in the Liturgical Year.

The Examen

The whole college community pauses each day at 12.05pm for our Examen. This is a prayer form developed by St. Ignatius and involves a prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to see God’s presence in our lives. Our Examen time is often prepared by our pupils and staff. During this time the pupils learn about mediation and personal prayer and are provided with the opportunity to experience Ignatian meditation in order to encounter Christ.

Our College Prayers

The Prayer of Generosity (said at the beginning of the day and each lesson)

Lord Jesus,
Teach me to be generous,
To serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labour and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing I do your will. Amen.

The Prayer of St Ignatius (said at the end of the college day)

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
my memory, my understanding,
and my entire will,
All I have and call my own.

You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.

Everything is yours; do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
that is enough for me.
