Statement from our Chair of Governors
As Chair of Governors, I want to inform everyone in our community about information on the Birmingham Diocesan Education Department website. The information suggests that, along with a number of other Cannock Chase Catholic schools, Cardinal Griffin Catholic College will be joining the Painsley Multi-Academy Company. This statement, which has been published alongside similar statements relating to other Voluntary Aided Schools across the Archdiocese of Birmingham joining various Multi-Academy Companies, is inaccurate and misleading and I have requested this information is removed.
The Secretary of State has made clear that any decision to convert a Voluntary Aided school to academy status rests with the Governing Body of a school, save for schools which are eligible for intervention.
We are fully in support of his Grace the Archbishop of Birmingham in his wish for all schools to academise. However, the implication that the Governors have approved an academisation or that they have approved academisation with Painsley Multi-Academy Company is inaccurate. Decisions about the future of our College will be made by the responsible authority, the Governing Body.
